Which HIKMICRO is right for you?
Two decisions drive the choice: sensor resolution and lens size.
LYNX 3.0 series (384x288 sensor) the working-hunter's tier. The LH19 ($1,899) with its 19 mm lens gives a wide view for scanning paddocks at closer range; the LH25 ($2,099) balances field of view and reach; the LH35 ($2,399) with its 35 mm lens pulls detail at longer distance for open country.
CONDOR 2.0 series (640x512 sensor, built-in laser rangefinder) roughly three times the pixel count of the LYNX's sensor, which means cleaner identification at distance: telling a pig from a wombat at 300 m instead of guessing. The CQ35L ($4,099) and CQ50L ($4,699) both include a laser rangefinder, so you know exactly how far the heat signature is before you move.
Rule of thumb: bigger lens = more reach, narrower view. Higher resolution = identify animals further out. Scanning close paddocks? LH19/LH25. Big open country and positive ID at distance? CONDOR.
Any warm-blooded animal against a cooler background through darkness, light scrub and grass that would hide it from a spotlight. Detection distance depends on resolution, lens and conditions; identification always takes more than detection, which is where the 640-class CONDOR earns its price.
384x288 or 640x512 is the upgrade worth it?
If you mostly scan inside a few hundred metres, the LYNX 3.0's 384 sensor does the job. If you need to positively identify animals at longer range, or you're culling seriously and often, the CONDOR's 640 sensor and rangefinder pay for themselves in certainty.
Why does the built-in rangefinder matter?
At night you lose every depth cue. The CONDOR's LRF tells you if that heat source is 80 m or 250 m away which changes your approach, your shot decision, and your safety margin.
