How to choose a compound bow
Fit first, brand second. A $3,000 flagship shot at the wrong draw length will shoot worse than a properly fitted entry bow. Get your draw length measured before comparing models.

Draw weight: Most adult hunters shoot 60–70 lb; start lower and work up. You should be able to draw smoothly straight back without pointing the bow at the sky. Youth bows like the Hoyt Kobalt are built to grow with the shooter.
Axle-to-axle length: Shorter bows (around 29–30", like the Hoyt AX-3 29 or Mathews Arc 30) are easier to manoeuvre in scrub and hides; longer bows (33–35", like the AX-3 33, Arc 34 or PSE Mach 35 FDS) hold steadier at full draw. If you spot-and-stalk in tight country, shorter usually wins. However, for an all-round hunting bow a longer ATA will provide a more forgiving platform.
Aluminium vs carbon riser: Hoyt's AX-3 series runs an aluminium riser; the Carbon RX-10 series uses carbon—lighter to lug all day and warmer in the hand on cold mornings, at a higher price.

What draw weight do I need for hunting?
Enough for clean pass-throughs on the game you chase, at a weight you can draw and let down with ease. Most adults settle at 60–70 lb; many start at 50–60 lb and build up. Arrow weight and broadhead choice matter as much as poundage. Ask us what will work best for you!
Should a beginner buy a flagship bow?
Not necessarily. A well-fitted Enduro with a tuned arrow setup will outperform a badly setup flagship bow. Put the savings into arrows, a quality sight and a course—you can upgrade the bow later.
